Bail Bond Questions

What is a bail bond?
A bail bond is a financial guarantee to the court that the defendant will appear at every court appointment as directed by the court.
How much does a bail bond cost?
All bail bond premiums are between 8% and 10% of the full bond amount in the State of Indiana. For example, if the bond is $10,000, the premium will be $800. These fees are regulated by the Department of Insurance. Most jails also collect a mandatory $5 fee that is paid at the time the bond is posted.

Some bonds will require collateral in addition to the bond premium. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
What methods of payment are accepted for bail bond premiums?
You may pay for your bail bond premium using cash, check, credit, or debit card.
Is the bail bond premium refundable?
No. Once the bond is posted, the premium is earned and, according to state law, may not be refunded.
When can a bond be posted?
Every jail is different. Presently, the Hamilton County Jail located in Noblesville, Indiana, processes bail bonds seven days a week on an appointment-only basis. There may be a waiting time if there is any type of alcohol, drug, or other hold placed on your friend or family member. Please discuss your individual situation with us.
What happens if a defendant fails to appear in court?
The indemnitor (co-signer) of the bond is financially responsible for the bond. If a defendant fails to appear and the court issues a warrant, we will contact you immediately to resolve the matter.
Do I get my money back?
No, but as long as the defendant goes to court and keeps his/her 'nose clean,' you do not owe us anymore!

1 Civic Square, Carmel, IN

What does 'indemnitor' really mean? How much responsibility do I actually have?
Although you may have only paid 10% of the face value of the entire bond, until the defendant’s case is over, you remain financially responsible. Meaning if the defendant skips town, we will demand you surrender said individual. After a predetermined amount of time, we will then request the full amount of the bond. So, on a $5,000 bond that you paid $500 for, you will now pay $5,000, in addition to still being responsible for producing the fugitive. If you still do not comply, we will then hire a fugitive recovery agent, and you will incur his expenses as well, including but not limited to research, gas, etc.
